Pregnancy Massage

The Consultation

Our massage therapist will review your medical history and consult with you about treatment goals and any potential contraindications. She will be able to focus on any tight muscles or special problem areas that you bring to her attention.

The Procedure

Our massage therapist will leave the room so you can undress and get under the sheet on the massage table.  You may undress to your comfort level; your therapist will undrape only the section of your body which she intends to massage.  If you don’t feel comfortable disrobing, please let us know during your initial consultation.  A face and scalp massage or a foot and hand reflexology session may be more comfortable for you.  During a body massage, let us know at any time if you would like more or less pressure.  Your massage therapist may add hot towels to your back, legs, or décolleté for added comfort and relaxation.

Our massage therapist is certified in pregnancy massage. To safely enjoy this type of massage, you must be 16+ weeks into your pregnancy (i.e. out of your 1st trimester).  Depending on your comfort level, you may receive your massage in the side-lying position or reclining while you relax against pillows.  Due to stretching and loosening ligaments, pregnancy massage is a light pressure, relaxing massage.  Let our massage therapist know if you need to adjust positions or switch sides at any time to keep you and your baby comfortable.

The Recommended Follow-Up

Massage increases circulation and releases toxins in your body.  Drinking ample amounts of water after your massage is an important means of encouraging the flushing out of this unwanted waste build-up.  Regular massage therapy helps reduce stress, lessen muscle tension, and boost your immune system.  Consult with our massage therapist to develop a customized massage treatment plan well-suited to complement your lifestyle, diet and exercise routine.
